Functional Anatomy:
An Introductory Training for Aspiring Teachers

Exploring the relationship between the "inner spiral of the wrists" and the "outer spiral of the shoulders" in downward facing dog.

Examining how the inner knee can collapse if the adductors are tight and/or the outer edge of the back foot isn't grounded in Warrior 2.
If you offer a 200- or 300-hour teacher training, we'd love to join your team to provide the anatomy component! We offer distinct anatomy programs at both levels that can be tailored to the needs of your curriculum.

Anatomy for RYT200
The program that we've put together consists of the following four modules:
  1. Intro to Functional Anatomy (including an introduction to the Skeletal & Muscular Systems)
  2. Musculoskeletal Anatomy of the Axial Skeletal
  3. Musculoskeletal Anatomy of the Lower Extremities
  4. Musculoskeletal Anatomy of the Upper Extremities

Each module includes lecture, discussion, experiential activities and frequent reference to yoga asana.  We also provide access to an online student resources website that includes all of the presentation slides and an open-book quiz for each module to encourage review and retention. Ideally each module would be covered over the course of two sessions of 2-3 hours duration, for a total of 4-6 hours per module (16-24 hours total for the whole series). This allows for a more spacious experience that includes plenty of experiential exercises. However, if time is limited the whole program can be condensed into four, 3-hour sessions (12 hours total).

Anatomy for RYT300
We offer two different formats for the 300-hour program, both of which assume a basic familiarity with musculoskeletal anatomy and common injuries.
  • Anatomy of Yoga Asana: an exploration of the musculoskelatal anatomy of a few different postures from every major pose group
  • Round Table Format: the training begins with a partner exercise and sharing circle to explore areas of anatomy and asana where more knowledge is desired; a list of topics to explore is generated which serves as the syllabus for the entire weekend.  This format, while loosely structured, is great because it directly addresses questions that the teacher trainees have accumulated from their teaching to date.
The length of the training is completely flexible based upon the number of hours you choose to allocate for anatomy within your program.  From our perspective, the more hours the better!

Our programs are flexible and our fees are reasonable.  For more information, please contact us.
